St. Peter Parish at 515 E Knight St, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827-1356 US - History of Parish

History of Parish

St. Peter Catholic Church is blessed with a very colorful history, beginning in 1878- with nine families gathering for their first home Mass. That was the genesis of Saint Peter Parish. In 1891 the small wooden Episcopal Church on River Street was purchased by these nine families. In 1930, that structure was enlarged and faced with fieldstone. When our numbers grew, we sold the church on River Street and moved into a new church and catechetical center a block down on Knight Street. Again we grew and by 1994 the present church was erected to meet our spiritual and special needs. This created space enabling us to offer a daycare center to help our young families as well as the opportunity to place a future school. Our dream of an orthodox Catholic School came to fruition with our first year of class in the Fall of 2003 and ran through June of 2010 when we were forced to close due to economic constraints.
